Plan to Thrive, Tailored cancer survivorship interventions

Collaborator:
Northwestern University, Department of Medical Social Sciences

Overview

The “Plan to Thrive” project is both a cancer survivorship research intervention efficacy study as well as a custom-built fully-featured research intervention study management platform.

The Study

The study is comprised of 90 days of 600+ distinct content modules to be deployed over the course of a 90 day intervention that covers major survivorship related content areas including: Anxiety, Fatigue, Depression, Nutrition, Physical Activity, Pain, Substance Use, Symptom Management, and Sexual Function.

The Platform

The platform is a turnkey solution for developing any time based intervention, regardless of domain. The Plan to Thrive platform provides a self-service tool for researchers, health-educators, physicians and other health intervention designers to design, test, and deploy an intervention in typical settings using commercial grade systems in a sustainable way. The Plan to Thrive platform:

  • Can be deployed easily, safely, and securely on private, secure servers within academic research contexts that manages the transmission of any PII on separately managed infrastructure
  • Has an administrative management interface that enables end-to-end content management and rules management separately from the participant experience
  • Makes use of commodity, scalable, off the shelf tools for enabling these stakeholders to manage emails, SMS messaging, and content authorship (CKEditor) without incurring what would typically be significant tooling costs to develop these materials
  • Makes use of common researcher used tools like REDCap to simplify the transition from ideation to implementation
  • Expands on the use of other NIH supported initiatives like PROMIS by allowing any researcher to use PROMIS scoring in their work
