As researchers, for our health research studies and clinical trials, we strive to gather comprehensive and the most accurate data that represents the rich diversity of our country. Until recently, the researcher community has struggled to achieve this aim of capturing these data and their focus has remained on the most easily accessed demographic group: white males.

Understanding, reaching, and supporting underrepresented groups is no longer an ideal of the future state of research. It is – and it must be – a present priority.
